Li-ion batteries are making the future of the energy storage system in every domain ranging from automobile, utility grid to gadgets such as—mobile phones, toys, appliances, etc. Li is the lightest of metals and has the greatest electrochemical potential which helps in achieving very high energy densities in high power battery applications.

The generic construction of the Li-ion cells uses carbon as anode and lithium cobalt dioxide or compound of lithium manganese as cathode. However, electrolyte used is common and usually based on lithium salt (Barcellona & Piegari, 2017; Meng et al., 2018).
